Artist Statement

Artist’s Statement

Nature will bear the closest inspection. She invites us to lay our eye level with her smallest leaf, and take an insect view of its plain.”
-Henry David Thoreau-

I enjoy photographing while “in-the-moment”. My subjects are things that most people walk past every day without even noticing. My goal is to photograph these objects in a way that will draw the viewer closer; close enough to reveal the beauty of a world seldom seen.

Final Count

Last week we picked my final 'shrooms to be on display for my portfolio.  Most need to be re-edited, so I'll be working on that the next couple of days. All the photos that were picked are already uploaded here.  Once I'm finished editing, I'll upload the finals

I also need to make a QR code, redo my artist statement (I have no idea what to write!), and finish setting up my website http://quitecontraryimages.zenfolio.com/

Almost done!

The past couple of weeks...

I've been busy!  Trying to find mushrooms, working on a collection of photos from an event, class, house, work and kids.  These are the photos I've taken the past couple of weeks.  This week I'm working on reediting the portfolio photos to, hopeful, look more together.

My daughter was home from college last weekend!  I kept talking about finding mushrooms and she asked why.  I told her the week before I only found 1. 1! can you believe that?  Actually, my youngest found it and it was tiny!  We had to pull the grass out from around it to see it.  I'm not even sure how she saw it.

This was the class' favorite:

 This was mine:

Well, my oldest said there were a bunch on her campus.  When I took her back, sure enough they were still there!  And all kinds of varieties and sizes!  Awesome!  It was a life saver!   I did find some weird ones in the backyard.  They didn't have stems.

This week I didn't even have a clue where to go.

Special thanks to my classmates who were looking for me too!

The past couple of weeks have been VERY busy.  This past weekend I photographed the Space Coast Motor Officers motorcycle rodeo.  I have lots of photos that I need to edit and post.

I spent the weekend before photographing the Thunderbirds!  I love those planes!  Thanks to my husband, I was able to get in and photograph them up close!  Eventually, I would love a ride.

In between these weekends, I worked on my portfolio photos.  I wasn't able to get as much done as I would have liked, but this is what I have. It rained the past couple of days, so I'll have to get out and find some more mushrooms.  The class demanded that I keep the 'shrooms!

These were the photos that I have presented to the class:

Of Course!  I had to include a couple of Thunderbirds pictures!

2nd Portfolio Try

Last week I brought several photographs to have evaluated for my portfolio and these are what I have now.  I think they are going to look a lot alike if I continue this way, and I don't know how long the mushrooms are going to last.

I do think I need to reedit the new ones.  I think I made them too dark.

This past week I have taken a few photographs for this assignment, but I spent 2 days photographing the Thunderbirds! Thanks to my husband, I was able to get up close and personal with the planes and the maintenance personnel.  What a great group of guys!  I missed meeting the pilots though. ;-(  It will take me a while to go through over 1500 photos. I'm sure most of them will be deleted, since the planes go very fast!

This weekend I will be photographing the Space Coast Motor Officer's Rodeo in front of Macy's in Melbourne.  There will be over 60 riders.  Practice is Thursday and Friday with the competition on Saturday.  They're all really good!

Portfolio ~ Starting Off

Well, our first submissions are due and here is my first attempts.  All of them were taken in my front yard.  I don't think this will work as a portfolio since the flowers, mushrooms and bees will be gone in a short while. Well, except maybe my Fiddlewood bush.  It's going to be hard choosing since we are trying to sell our house, buy a new one, and hopefully, be moving soon.

It had rained during the night and I got up at sunrise to take the photos.  I like the drops on the plumeria.  I had more mushrooms in my yard a few days before and there was only 2 left on this morning. The fiddlewood bush is always full of bees and all sorts of other insects.  It smells WONDERFUL which is why it's by my front door and window.  The colors on the plumeria sure turned out vibrant!

Starting Out

Well,

I'm taking a portfolio class and part of this class is to blog.  I am NOT into social media and have no idea how to use it. I don't like writing, either. So, here it goes.

I am trying to figure out what to use as a topic/theme for my class.  I really have a hard time making decisions because I have to thinking through everything and with the pros and cons and so many different things I like, I can't decide. I'd like to do macro photography, but don't have the lens.  I like nature, but even here in Florida the flowers and insects will be gone before this class is over. Right now we're practicing and learning about portfolios.  I have some photos to turn in, but I don't know if they'll even be like what I end up doing.
